American Homeschool Diploma (AHD)

AHD, yet another way to get your school leaving certificate and this qualification is also accepted at many universities…both local and international.  The AHD is typically completed over a period of 3-5 years, and by 18 years of age.


I know what you’re thinking, and no, the AHD is not the same as GED (General Education Development).  True, they are both American qualifications, but are there are distinctive differences? Download my homeschool guide for more detailed info on this.

What subjects are required?

The Diploma doesn’t work on exams as GED does, but rather credits depending on the hours spent on a subject.  So from Grade 9-12, your child earns credits on English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and Electives.  In total, you earn between 21-28 Credits over 4 years (5-7 credits per annum), and 1 credit is equal to 120-150 hours, and 0.5 credits as 60 hours, overall credit broken down as follows:
